The Disadvantages of Spending a Holiday Abroad

How nice to have a long break from your hectic study life? How about a fabulous holiday that costs you a little, no worries of security and safety, and what most, no hustle on food? Being a student, time and money are not always on your side, so don’t you want to spend your holiday wisely? Definitely, you would be discouraged to spend your hard-earned time and money abroad.

Firstly, it is the fact that having holiday abroad would cost you more money. Due to present drop in Ringgit value against major currencies, spending holiday in countries such as the US, United Kingdom or Australia will be more expensive. It costs you more on tickets fee, room, transportation, food or even your shopping lists. Plus, having a vacation abroad would lead you to unnecessary and additional costs for getting your passport or visa ready or you may end up paying tax for items you purchase abroad. A part from that, you also tend to get cheated for paying more for items or services that you are not familiar with on foreign soil.

Secondly, having vacation overseas may raise security and safety concerns. We may often get carried away while in shopping heaven. We may be exposed and fall victim of crimes such as pick pocket, car-jacking, robberies or even kidnapping. Moreover, being a Muslim, we might be a subject of religious prejudice because not all countries are Muslim-friendly and due to racism by local people, Muslims are not well-received. Furthermore, being in foreign country, their rules and regulations are alien to you as things deemed legal in our country might be illegal in other countries. We may get caught and penalised or even worst, we may get arrested unnecessarily.

Lastly, food is major disadvantage when you are on a overseas trip. Why food? The obvious issue is that majority of Malays eat rice in their daily meals. In overseas you may find it difficult to find rice and if we do, it may cost you a lot just for a plate of rice. As for Muslims getting ‘halal’ food is a main concern and we might face problems in finding ‘halal’ food especially in a non-Muslim country.

When travelling abroad, cooking your own meals is almost impossible. Unlike in Malaysia where cooking facilities and raw materials and ingredients are easily available, how much time do you have for searching for those items and if you do so, does the hotel abroad allow their guest to cook?

In a nut shell, even though there are a lot of disadvantages of spending a holiday abroad, we still can enjoy our break by going on a vacation in our country, Malaysia because you might be surprised to have beautiful scenery of beaches, various kind of food that you may want to enjoy and of course, there are great shopping heavens that offer reasonable price and lot of goodies too.

WHY STUDENTS SHOULD ACQUIRE A SECOND LANGUAGE???

Some of the students these days dont take a second language seriously eventhough most of us learnt them since primary or even kindergarden.By now students should realise that they must acquire a second language which is english not just learn and forget. We use it internationally and students should master it and practise it.

One of the main reason especially students are:

To improve chances of entry to study abroad-how are we going to study abroad without knowing english?if we dont acquire fluency in  english  we definately going to face difficulty in communication. When we know the language, we have the comfort to of being able to successfully navigate all sorts of situations.Eventhough not all country speak english and require us to take third language but it is better than nothing.

To communicate with foreigners in our country-Malaysia are known with places for foreigners to discover and travel.Especially our country now are opening eyes of the world so we should give them the best treat especially in communication.Foreigners surely will be asking us for directions and places of interest, are we going to run from their question and hide. Not a really good impression to them right?

To increase confidence when facing people-even in our education system are using english mainly in universities. All presentations, assignments and lectures are in english. We can understand more if we acquire second language and not being blurry in class. If we master english no more shame in presenting and publically speaking infront of people .

Broaden horizons-this means we can make friends with people around the world and learn their culture.

No more subtitle/translation!-english movies,tv shows or books are now can be translated when aired. So if we acquire our second language we are able to understand and not watching or reading the subs (because most of them are not fun to read and sometimes we missed the best joke)

Job?-english has beome the lingua franca in many parts of the world so we have to learn english to work at a multinational counrty (commonly this kind of company pays higher). This is for the students who are graduating in the future think how acuiring a second language effects big part of it.

Thankyou for reading.

Studying In A Group vs. Studying Alone

Students always find complication over whether to study alone or in groups. While being in groups might bring lots of distractions, studying alone might let our mind wander off. However, different people have different opinion of things as some might enjoy the atmosphere of being a group but prefer to do so in silence. While others like to sit alone and do the rest on their own.

Explanation - When alone, all the explanation can be found in books and the internet, this teaches us to be independent of finding something on your own. Whilst, studying in groups may be easier as your study mates might have more information and can increase your knowledge.

Keep silent – Sitting alone gives peace and space, allowing us to think carefully and have less distraction while doing so. In groups, one conversation may lead to another and from talking about a subject, it can easily turn into a conversation of what’s for lunch, or what clothing to buy. Although this is actually up to the people in the group.

Put your mind on it – When you study on your own, you’re able to focus on the topics that you have already picked out and not waste any time on those that you already understand. While your partner might want you to study the topics that they are not familiar with.

Quizzes – Surely quizzes or questions can be done alone and there’s no problem with it. The fun way to do it is in groups; help those who needs it, make flash cards together and quiz one another. Learning with people can give us a free mind and a great mood; success is just around the corner!

Take your time – By studying alone, you can read and study your materials carefully and take your own time. Studying at your own pace is important for you to understand things thoroughly. Rushing things may only lead to less understanding and mixed up information.

Golden information – Studying in groups allows sharing of opinions, views and information. These kinds of discussion will able you to improve your thinking skills. By sharing, we can expand the basic information that we have on something and broaden our understanding on the topic.

Basically everyone have their own ways of studying. Nevertheless, we wish you the best in it!
